Our very dear friend, Rich Villalva, has recently been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Those of us who know Rich are fortunate to call him our friend. For each of us, at one time or another, he has been a pillar of strength, upon whom we can always depend. Always available with an attentive ear and a shoulder to cry upon, he listens to our troubles, offers sound advice, and responds with encouragement, wisdom, comfort, and understanding. Compassionate and self-sacrificing, he has been our rock; now, we are coming together to be his in return.
We were all devastated when Rich was admitted to the ER on May 12 and received the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. For the next nine months at least, Rich will not be able to work his day job as an orthotic technician. Short term disability unfortunately does not provide full pay. In true "Rich character" he remains strong and independent and is reluctant to ask for help. However, with the reality of the everyday basic necessities, money will get tighter and his friends want to assist. Additionally, Rich has been forced to put his musical career on hold, canceling most of his gigs for the next year. While his supporters are saddened that he will not be performing, we also recognize the emotional toll this will take on him as music is such a tremendous part of his life.
As a talented musician, Rich not only brings joy to his friends but also to audiences throughout NJ as he has been performing for over thirty-five years, fronting numerous bands as lead vocalist and performing as a soloist. Friends who follow his music refer to themselves as the "shiny, happy people club" because that is the environment Rich perpetually creates for others - one of peace, joy, acceptance and love.
In addition to this gofundme page, we are continuing the spirit of love and harmony by hosting a musical benefit at the Headliner Saturday, Jul 19, 2025. Doors open at 1pm. The benefit will run from 130-6pm. Promotional flyers will be distributed soon.
Rich is one of the strongest, most selfless people we have ever known and he has always been there with love and support for anyone in need. Now, it's time that we send back some of that love and support to Rich. Anything you can donate will be truly appreciated. We need to surround him with faith, hope and encouragement so he can focus on healing. Please spread the word. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
