While I was abroad teaching in China and mastering my craft in Education and Leadership, I returned home for the summer and helped my parents enter into what we believed was a financing agreement for approximately $48,000. Under this agreement, they would receive a trailer and be able to retire in five years. We understood that the deal was structured so that the biweekly payments my parents were making would result in the trailer being fully paid off after five years. These payment terms were set up by the sales representatives and the bank, and we signed the agreement based on that understanding.

Only years later did we realize the financing structure appears to have been set up very differently than we were told and what we understood at the time.

After realizing it is now seven years of payments totalling a little more than $31,000, we recently learned there is also a very large (and new) balance remaining (almost $40 000!), significant charges extending far beyond what we believed we had agreed to. We still barely understand it as it is and are working on figuring it out.

As my parents have recently retired (June 2026), this has created enormous financial stress and absolute unexpected uncertainty for our family.

I recently returned to Canada and have been trying to help my family understand the financing documents, payment structure, and available options. We are actively seeking guidance, reviewing records, and exploring appropriate channels for accountability and consumer support.

At this point, our immediate goal is to find help, stability and security.

The funds raised will help, (but barely) cover:
- the days and weeks spent learning, researching, investigating, and seeking help/justice
- the remaining and extended debt which my parents will not be able to afford while we get this sorted
- the legal and financial consultations, which are, unfortunately, seeming inevitable at this time as we cannot find help with the institutions we have signed these business deals with
- some financial stability for my parents while we continue seeking answers

(FYI: my parents are seniors and retired/semi-retired. My dad is 70 and has continued working the last 5 years simply to ensure this trailer was paid off in the 5 years we had agreed to with the salesman and GO RV finance man.)

We are not asking for sympathy or pity, only a chance to recover from a situation that has become far more overwhelming than we could have ever expected, especially because we tried so incredibly hard to avoid this situation altogether.

Any support, shares, or words of encouragement truly mean the world to us. If anyone you know can share advice, information or education, that would also be appreciated. Please find me (the daughter) at www.lavenderlibrarypress.ca

Thank you for taking the time to read our story. Thank you for any and all understanding and support.

Best regards,
Ashley + Lavender Library Press
on behalf of my parents
