Please pray for my daughter, Renee Martin. On the evening of December 5, 2024, her life drastically changed in the Lafayette Laundromat in Lafayette, Indiana, when a 73-year-old Lincoln, Nebraska, man came into the laundromat and began shooting indiscriminately. My daughter watched her good friend, Keith Ford, take his last breath as she was shot multiple times in the abdomen, lower chest, pelvic area, arms, and hand.

She was rushed to ICU and went through two operations, where her abdomen was cut open and 10 inches of her intestines were removed. Doctors stated that her spleen was grazed in the attack, and it took over 30 staples to close her abdominal cavity.

She was moved to a rehab facility where she spent six weeks before being able to go home. Seven months later, she still has a loss of feeling in her right hand, which was pierced during the attack and has bullet fragments inside of her. She suffers from abdominal and hip pain and loss of strength. She continues to see specialists to determine what will help — future surgeries, PT, etc.

She is not able to do the things that most of us take for granted — like lift a 24-pack of water, carry groceries or loads of laundry, as well as go do things with her two daughters like she would like to.

Though she continues to try, she has not been able to locate work, nor does she have the stamina required to work on a consistent basis. Her focus has been impacted, and she struggles at times to leave her place to go anywhere.

She suffers from depression and PTSD and is in therapy to seek help to deal with the emotional and physical trauma that she has suffered. At times, she sees an older person and wonders if she is safe. She cries for her friend and his family as well and tries to make sense of this senseless crime — replaying that night and the choices that were made that allowed their paths to cross.

Without being able to work, she has drained her savings, has accumulated debt, and is unable to pay her bills. While she has been able to secure government assistance with bare minimal food, rent, and utilities, she still has auto expenses, phone bills, wants to get a gym membership to work out, as well as things that she would like to buy for her children and herself.

Any amount that you give would be appreciated. It would help bridge the gap between now and when/if she qualifies for disability. If you have ever tried to get disability, you know that it is a very long process. I am asking for $7000 at this time to help pay debts, catch up on bills, and provide for her until such a time that she can provide for herself. Please pray for her mental and physical health, for her healing, and for her babies.

Thank you and God bless!
