Every Campus A Refuge (ECAR) at Wake Forest University needs your help to cover urgent housing costs for multiple resident/refugees who will be transitioning out of university-supported housing at the end of this calendar year. Right now, affordable housing is incredibly difficult to find, especially for refugees with limited income and short credit histories.
ECAR is faced with significant expenses and we are turning to the WFU community for help. All of the work that we do at ECAR is on a volunteer basis, and all collected funds will go immediately and directly to the families we serve. We rely on donations from individuals who care about welcoming refugees.
The most urgent need right now are housing costs, both toward rent and down-payments to qualify for a long-term home, avoiding expensive/late fees from short-term options. Our program offers temporary housing, allowing current and past residents to have a place to stay while working toward essential expenses such as transportation/car maintenance, education/training, legal fees for US citizenship and family reunification, and clothes and schooling supplies for children.
Through the Every Campus a Refuge program at Wake, we have created a new vision of what an American college campus and American community can look like. Our goal is to take the refugee narrative beyond the image of flight to the reality of resettlement in small-town America. We hope to show that families come as friends, neighbors, educators, professionals, authors who give to our local community as they share their stories and expertise.
