This is the story of Fareed Wafa and his family who arrived four months ago as refugees in the San Francisco area. The hands of his six delightful children, ages 1 through 16, are pictured here. Please find it in your hearts to help this family who, with zero income right now, is struggling to survive.

Here in America, Fareed's children are working hard to learn English and make new friends. In spite of the challenges the family faces right now, when asked what she likes best about America, Fareed’s wife Hina brightens and says, “Everything!” She feels a peace here that she hasn't for years. 

Back in war-torn Afghanistan, Fareed worked for a U.S. agency to help promote democracy and alleviate poverty. Over the years, he developed a reputation as a dedicated U.S. government employee and was forced to move from one city to another to stay alive. When in spite of the moves Fareed couldn’t keep his family safe anymore, he applied for asylum in the United States. The Wafa family arrived in America this past December but must now start from scratch.
