Help Me Take Breaking the Meta On the Road — and Meet the Candidates Cable News Won't.
In Tennessee's 4th District, Victoria Broderick is a working mom running against an incumbent who's held the seat for over a decade. She got into politics after her IUD failed and Roe was overturned during her maternity leave. In Montana, Alani Bankhead is a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel and former Pentagon bodyguard who spent her career hunting child traffickers, and she's now running for U.S. Senate. In Virginia's 1st, Elizabeth Dempsey Beggs is an Army tank commander turned foster mom, taking on both a Republican incumbent and her own party's establishment for trying to anoint a different candidate before voters even get a say.
I've interviewed all three of them and more online, from my home setup. Every time, I hung up thinking the same thing: I should be there. Walking the district. Meeting the volunteers giving up their evenings and weekends. Sitting across from them in the diner where they take their coffee. These are the kinds of stories that don't survive a webcam and they're exactly the kind cable news has stopped telling.
I'm Mike Winson, host and creator of Breaking the Meta, an independent YouTube podcast putting grassroots and independent candidates front and center, the ones who don't have a Super PAC or a party machine behind them. With the 2026 midterms ahead, the stakes are real, and so is the opportunity. There are dozens of candidates like Victoria, Alani, and Elizabeth across the country worth meeting in person. I want to go to them.
That's what this fundraiser is for. Your support sends me on the road, to sit down with candidates in their districts, walk the streets they're trying to represent, and bring you the kind of grounded political journalism the big networks abandoned a long time ago. Every dollar goes directly to making that possible: travel, lodging, mobile recording gear, and the time it takes to do this right. No corporate sponsors. No party gatekeepers. Just real conversations with the people trying to break the two-party stranglehold on American politics.
If you've ever felt like the political conversation in this country has left you behind, if you're tired of the same five faces on the same cable shows saying the same things, this is your chance to fund something different. Chip in what you can. Share this page with one person who'd care. Let's go meet them where they are.
