Hello family, friends, and community members,
We are reaching out today to ask for your support during one of the most challenging times our family has ever faced. Our beloved Chelsea’s youngest child, Quinn, has endured an unimaginable medical journey, and our primary goal is to ensure that Chelsea can stay home with her little fighter for as long as possible once Quinn returns home.
Our Story
On January 16th, Quinn was admitted to Sunrise Children’s Hospital with suspected myocarditis caused by a virus. The very next day, she was airlifted to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City. Doctors at Sunrise warned that Quinn might eventually need a heart transplant—and if that day ever came, she’d be exactly where she needed to be.
Since then, Quinn has bravely faced multiple life-saving surgeries:
• January 26: Quinn underwent her first open-heart surgery and was placed on a ventricular assist device (VAD).
• January 28: She had a second surgery to remove a large blood clot from her ventricle.
• January 30: A third surgery was performed to clear fluid from her chest after her left lung collapsed, and the VAD insertion was adjusted to help prevent further clots.
• January 31: Due to complications, doctors needed to perform a fourth surgery to close her chest, which had been left “open.”
• February 4: We learned that Quinn suffered a stroke on her right side sometime between January 30 and February 3. With her being intubated and heavily medicated, an MRI couldn’t be performed to fully determine the extent of the damage.
• Valentine’s Day: After 19 days on the VAD—despite aggressive treatment to prevent clots—doctors removed the device.
In a remarkable display of resilience, Quinn’s heart function has improved from 23% to 59% in the past month and a half. However, this brave little 20-month-old, who once delighted us as a happy and healthy 18-month-old, now faces the long road of relearning how to walk, talk, and eat. She will require 3-4 more weeks of intensive inpatient therapy followed by ongoing outpatient therapy once she returns home to Vegas.
