We are the unionized workers at ProPublica, and we’re ready to strike for a fair contract.
Our union is fighting for a contract that includes strong job security protections, a fair and transparent disciplinary process, wages that recognize the value we bring to ProPublica and essential guardrails around artificial intelligence. After more than two years of bargaining and management’s refusal to agree to many of our common-sense proposals, it’s time for us to remind management that we are ProPublica.
We're in this fight because we love ProPublica. Investigative journalism with a moral force is a public service that we take seriously. Now more than ever, we need deeply researched, unbiased news that holds power to account. As ProPublica workers, we need a strong contract to do our jobs effectively. And we are prepared to walk off the job and forgo our paychecks to advocate for our members, for ProPublica readers and, now with the looming threat of AI, for the integrity of accountability journalism itself.
Going on strike means we will likely lose our paychecks for the duration of the work stoppage. While this is an important sacrifice in order to win a fair contract, many of our union members will need financial assistance. No one deserves to face financial hardship for taking action with their coworkers. Funds raised will go directly to ProPublica workers who cannot afford to miss a day’s pay. Your donations will help us win this fight.
Funds will be disbursed by our unit’s fundraising committee to striking ProPublica Guild members. If we do not need all of the funds raised, we will donate the extra money to other journalist unions' labor actions or strike funds. This fundraiser is member-led and is not affiliated with the NewsGuild, which may not raise money outside our dues.
