Support Preemies Winnie & Hank

Donation protected
On a trip to visit family in Virginia, Kendall went into early labor and at only 25 weeks and 6 days she had to be airlifted to a hospital in Maryland to have an emergency C-section. Winona “Winnie” and Henry “Hank” (yes, twins!) were born at 7:13pm and 7:14pm, respectively, on Thursday, June 17th, 2021. Both Winnie and Hank weighed in at just over 2 pounds and were breathing independently at birth, but like most preemies born this early, they were not quite ready to breathe on their own and later had to be intubated. Technically "micro preemies," Winnie and Hank need special care and had to be airlifted to Children’s National Hospital in Washington DC. Kevin was able to travel on to DC to be with the babies, but unfortunately Kendall was required to stay in the hospital in Maryland to recover from surgery. Thankfully, she is in good health and was discharged from the hospital on Saturday. Although moving slowly, she was able to join Kevin, Sophia and Nolan in DC and be reunited with the babies.

Winnie and Hank are doing well and are in great care at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Children’s National Hospital. The doctors removed Hank's tubes but are monitoring him and may have to reintubate. Undoubtedly, both of these little humans will face challenges as they continue to develop in the outside world. It is likely that they will be in the NICU in D.C. for upwards of 10-12 weeks. Kendall and Kevin (who live in New Haven, CT),  will need to find temporary lodging and are working with friends and family to figure out Nolan’s childcare and how to see Sophia while being so far away from home.

In addition to working through daunting logistics, there will be countless unexpected expenses: housing, meals, lost income, baby gear for preemies, medical expenses that may not be covered by insurance (including two emergency airlifts), and plenty of things yet-to-be-seen. The next months are critical for Winnie and Hank’s development. Kendall and Kevin will be spending all their time and energy focusing on their new babies—let’s make sure they feel loved and supported and don’t have to worry—not once—about finances.

If you are reading this, you likely know that Kendall and Kevin are incredible parents and are two of the kindest, most generous friends one could ask for. Let’s return that generosity and support them during the hardest thing they’ve ever gone through. They need you right now! Please pitch in what you can—anything helps—so they can focus solely on Winnie and Hank. And please help spread the word about this campaign in all of your channels so we can have the greatest impact possible.
