Pontcha Surf Club is a brand and community that promotes a regional revelation of surf lifestyle through art, apparel, and surf along the Louisiana coast. Since the 60s-70s, natives have flocked to Port Fourchon and Grand Isle to catch the Gulf's muddy waves. Local legend has it that at one time you could have seen over 40 people in the water at the height of the popularity of surfing during that era. Over the course of decades, the numbers began to dwindle as many grew older or stopped surfing altogether.
From transplants to locals to Louisiana surf elders, Pontcha Surf Club started as an outlet for community and camaraderie around something that seemed to be disappearing in the Pelican state. Fast forward to today when local surf shops have closed and the closest shop is around three hours outside of New Orleans. That's where the dream for Pontcha Surf Club's storefront emerged. To cater to a part of the Gulf Coast that seems to be forgotten by the greater surfing world.
Pontcha Surf Club is a sanctuary for the wandering wave enthusiasts in Louisana and beyond as well as an organized effort to bring everyone together. The Pontcha folks go to great lengths just to do what they love and share it with others. Their goal is to raise awareness around surfing in Louisiana, to keep the stoke alive, and introduce surfers nationwide to the mystifying history of the Gulf's iconic waves. For now, the club itself is as much of a hidden gem as the state is for surfing, but with your help, we can take Louisiana's surfing culture to the next level and build a legacy.
Pontcha Surf Club is asking for $15,000 to cover first year's rent as well as other costs involved.
