Memorial Italia association is launching a new project: the ‘politzèk – voices from the zone’ e-book series, published by the University of Turin. This series combines the collection and translation of first-hand accounts by political prisoners with a commitment to supporting their authors, seeking to promote initiatives that may alleviate their suffering and, where possible, contribute to their release.

The first volume, due to be released on October 13th, will be My Voice Will Not Be Silenced, a selection of letters and interviews written from prison by the journalist and human rights activist Ulviyya Ali (Guliyeva). Imprisoned in May 2025 in Azerbaijan on false charges, she was awarded the 2025 Free Press Award by the organisation Free Press Unlimited. Having spent years as a freelance journalist covering court cases and human rights violations in her country, Ulviyya worked for Voice of America from 2019 to 2025. Her arrest followed immediately after the closure of the broadcaster, ordered by Donald Trump.

On the day our ebook is published, she will turn 33. The book (in Italian) is available to free download at this link . We want as many people as possible to read it, but we also invite everyone who believes in human rights to support Ulviyya in her fight for freedom.
