Promotores de la Liberación Migrante is an all-volunteer Maya language justice collective based in Guatemala with members across North America, which has been organizing mutual aid support through free Mayan language interpretation for migrants detained in immigration detention since 2016.

The PLM collective designed and launched the #LibertadParaJuanita campaign in 2021, successfully advocating along with allies around the world for the release of Juanita, a Maya-Chuj migrant from Guatemala who was detained without a sentence for nearly 8 years in the Mexican border city of Reynosa. Now, 2 years after Juanita's release, PLM is collaborating with our filmmaker compañero Sebastián Lasaosa Rogers to launch his beautiful and moving feature-length documentary film about the community of San Mateo Ixtatán and their tireless and eventually victorious struggle to free Juanita.

The film is premiering at the DocsMX film festival in Mexico City, and PLM's members across Guatemala want to bring the film to their communities to share the inspiring story of how mass community mobilization, family support, and transnational organizing can successfully combine to challenge the ever-worsening attacks on millions of migrants struggling to seek safety and live with dignity in Mexico and the United States. In order to cover the costs of a year-long film tour in the rural indigenous communities where PLM's members live, beginning with the Guatemala premiere in Juanita's hometown of San Mateo in December, we are helping raise $10,000 for the costs of travel, lodging, food, space, and support for the community defense and organizing workshops that PLM will be facilitating during the stops of the 2025 tour.

UPAVIM Community Development Foundation, a Fair Trade cooperative project, is fiscally sponsoring the project to make sure all donations are tax-exempt and are transferred to PLM with no fees- donate without fear! ¡Únase con PLM para hacer posible la Gira de Cine Solidario de "Liberando a Juanita"!

Los Promotores de la Liberación Migrante es una organización de base de justicia lingüística con sede en Guatemala y con miembros originarios de las varias pueblos Maya hablantes, que ha estado organizando interpretación solidaria paraigrantes detenidos en centros de detención desde 2016.

El colectivo PLM también diseñó y coordinó la campaña #LibertadParaJuanita en 2021, luchando exitosamente por la liberación de Juanita, una migrante maya-chuj de Guatemala quien estuvo detenida sin sentencia durante casi 8 años en la ciudad fronteriza de Reynosa. Ahora, 2 años después de la liberación de Juanita, PLM está colaborando con nuestro compañero cineasta Sebastián Lasaosa Rogers para lanzar su conmovedor e inspirador largometraje documental sobre la comunidad de San Mateo Ixtatán y su incansable y victoriosa lucha para liberar a Juanita.

La película se estrena en el festival de cine DocsMX en la Ciudad de México, y los miembros de PLM en toda Guatemala quieren llevar la película a sus comunidades para compartir la inspiradora historia de cómo la movilización comunitaria masiva, el apoyo familiar y la organización transnacional pueden combinarse con éxito para desafiar los ataques cada vez peores contra millones de migrantes buscado seguridad y dignidad en México y los Estados Unidos. Para cubrir los costos de la gira en las comunidades rurales donde viven los miembros de PLM, comenzando con el estreno en Guatemala en la ciudad natal de Juanita de San Mateo en diciembre, estamos ayudando a recaudar $ 10,000 para los gastos de viaje, alojamiento, comida, espacio y otros gastos para los talleres de organización comunitaria que PLM facilitará durante el 2025.
