We are reaching out with heavy hearts to ask for support for my niece and her precious daughter, my great niece Piper who is once again facing an unimaginable battle.
After returning for routine lab work, Piper was unexpectedly readmitted to the hospital due to a relapse of B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. She began Block 1 re-induction, which required a month-long hospital stay. As if that alone wasn’t devastating enough, she is now fighting a life-threatening complication.
She is currently in the ICU with sepsis caused by a severe bacterial infection, with possible pancreatitis—an entirely new and terrifying battle on top of her cancer. Doctors believe the infection may have originated in her mouth, but at this time they are still working to identify it by growing cultures in a lab. The uncertainty has been overwhelming.
Due to the seriousness of the infection, she has a femoral PICC line placed in her groin to administer powerful IV antibiotics. Her chest port will need to be removed and replaced to prevent the infection from traveling to her heart. She is in significant pain and currently requires morphine to manage it.
My niece and Pipers father has been by their daughter’s side in Pittsburgh, unable to work while caring for their child during this critical time, and is unable to be home with Pipers brother and best friend Lukas! Meanwhile, everyday bills—rent, utilities, travel, food, and medical-related expenses—continue to pile up. The financial strain is becoming unbearable on top of the emotional and physical toll they are already enduring. Funds raised will go to household bills, medical bills, gas, and food!
No family should have to choose between being with their sick child and keeping the lights on. Any donation, no matter how small, will help ease this burden and allow my niece to focus on what matters most—being there for their daughter as she fights for her life once again.
