Anyone who knows me knows that my sons are my heart and soul. As many of you know, I have battled mental health for most of my life. At a weak point in that battle, I made a terrible mistake that has drastically changed my life, and the lives of everyone in my community. I am not using mental health as a defense. I am taking full responsibility for all my actions. I am accountable and remorseful. I am devastated. I am sorry.
Over the past 18 months, I have been homeless. I have been training my basketball students to sustain myself and provide whatever I can for my sons, but it has been incredibly difficult time. I have been blessed by the loyal support from many of you and I am grateful beyond words.
As tough as it has been, it is about to become even more difficult on those who depend on me. To spare all involved from having to endure a trial, I have accepted a plea deal from the district attorney. On July 3rd, I will begin serving a 12-year sentence in state prison.
On Saturday, I had to face my sons and tell them that I will be going away in less than two weeks. They broke down. They are crushed. They are my soul, and I am theirs.
I will not be there to support them any longer. I can’t give them the mental, physical and emotional support that they need from me, as they grow into young men. I won’t be there to show them the value of hard work, high character, resilience, and humanity.
I will not be able to contribute to their lives financially, except by asking our community for help. This GoFundMe is strictly for my sons. Amarii is heading to high school in the fall. Rajais heading into 8th grade, and Mesiyah is going to be in 5th grade. And Sky, who is one year old.
I understand that my actions have led to this, but the boys don’t deserve to the hardship caused by my absence. They deserve to finish high school and have a chance to go to college and live a fruitful life. They deserve a chance to become successful adults. So, I am HUMBLY asking everyone in our village to please find it in your hearts to help my children. You have all been a part of each other’s lives for most of their lives, and your support, big or small, will make a huge difference in the rest of their lives.
Please try to keep in contact with them. Please try to let them stay connected to the amazing Humble community. It is all they have ever known. It is who they are.
With all possible humility, I thank you all for everything you have contributed to my life and the lives of my sons.
