Hello! My name is Parker and I am a Life Scout in Troop 228 in Berea, OH. I am working on my Eagle Scout Leadership Project - building a GaGa ball pit at a city park. If you have never experienced GaGa Ball, it is a multi-player game played in a octagonal "pit" by swatting a ball at each other. With a ball the only equipment needed, and no catching or throwing involved, it is a game almost anyone can play.
Why this project? I love GaGa ball, and so do many of my friends and schoolmates. However, there is no public pit in our community to play in. Those of us lucky enough to go camping at scout reservations with pits, or with access to church-owned or other private pits, get to play sometimes. Otherwise, we have to get creative...I have seen kids at the city rec center even use folding tables set on their sides to create a space to play. Putting a pit at a city park will provide youth in the community with a place to play a game they clearly enjoy.
The funds I raise will go towards not only the supplies to build the pit (corner brackets, wall boards, top edge covers), but also to provide the Parks and Recreation Department with enough extra wall boards and edge covers to maintain the pit for 3-4 years. The project is also providing a ball rack and 3-4 years worth of balls so the park staff can provide one to players who do not have their own ball. Finally, the funds will be used to provide personal protection equipment, such as gloves and masks for sanding and staining, for the people who help me install the pit.
Thank you so much for your consideration - if you would like to learn more about GaGa ball you can go to https://www.gagaballpits.com/about-gaga-ball/. Please share this page with others and let's Ga-Ga-Go!
