"Papa" Mark Herrera was the heart of our family. He and my mom opened their home and hearts to four little children, including one-year-old twins, a two-year-old, and a four-year-old, adopting each of them and raising them as their own. Alongside caring for the youngest, "Papa" Mark always made sure my two older children had a loving home with him as well. He never hesitated to step up for our family, always providing, always present, and always treating me as his daughter. He was the steady rock for my mom, a loving father figure to my children, and a devoted grandpa from the very beginning. His unwavering support and unconditional love shaped our lives and gave us a sense of belonging and security.

"Papa" was always there for my kids from day one, holding them when they came home from the hospital, comforting them when they were sick, and sharing in every moment. He watched shows with them, put together every toy, opened every present, and was truly their best friend. The memories he created with them are a gift we will always cherish.

For the past four years, "Papa" Mark bravely battled lung disease, enduring high levels of oxygen and difficult medications. Even as his health declined and he entered hospice care two weeks ago, his main concern was our well-being. He made us promise to continue the life we built together and to take care of each other. Yesterday, "Papa" Mark passed away peacefully at home, as he wished, and will be cremated according to his wishes. Our family is now honoring his memory and the loving home he helped create, while supporting each other through this transition.
