Help Me Build a Small Fiber Farm & Creative Business From the Ground Up
Hi everyone,
My name is Pamela Middleton, and I’m starting a long-term plan to build a small fiber-based business that can eventually grow into a family homestead and alpaca fiber farm in Iowa.
Right now, I live in Eastern Iowa with my family of 6 in a small home. I’m not able to keep livestock where I live, but I’ve found a way to begin building toward my goal immediately.
My plan is to start a **garage-based fiber processing business**, where I will:
* Source raw fiber from farms
* Clean, sort, and process fiber by hand
* Create and sell roving, batts, and raw fleece for fiber artists
* Sell spinning tools like wool combs, drop spindles, and carders
Over time, this small business will help me save toward a bigger goal:
* Purchasing rural land
* Building a home for my family
* And eventually raising alpacas for sustainable fiber production
The long-term vision includes working with animals like alpacas to produce natural fiber, offering fiber arts education, and building a small, sustainable farm business.
Right now, I’m asking for help to get started with the basics:
* Fiber processing equipment (carders, combs, storage systems)
* Initial raw fiber inventory
* Workspace setup for a garage-based studio
* Basic tools for packaging and small business operations
This isn’t just a business idea—it’s a step-by-step plan to build stability, independence, and a long-term future for my family.
Every donation will go directly toward starting this small fiber studio and helping me take the first step toward land ownership and a future alpaca farm.
Even if you can’t donate, sharing this means a lot.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and support this journey.
