We are reaching out during one of the most painful and urgent moments of our lives. Our beloved Paloma Gonzalez Garcia (Rowell)—a radiant mother, devoted wife, and cherished friend—has been hospitalized in Mexico after a sudden and severe case of Hepatitis. What began as a summer visit to spend time with family in Mazatlán quickly escalated into a medical emergency that now threatens her life.

Paloma’s illness progressed into acute liver failure and encephalitis, a rare and life-threatening combination. Her liver is no longer functioning properly, and inflammation in her brain has impaired her clarity and cognitive response. She spent several days in intensive care in Mazatlán, and it became clear that local care would not be enough to save her life.

Doctors advised that she be urgently transferred by medical air ambulance to Mexico City, where she could be treated by leading specialists in liver and neurological care—a transfer we made happen on Wednesday, July 23. Thanks to the speed and expertise of the medical team and the support of close friends, Paloma is now under the care of a world-class hepatology team at a top hospital in Mexico City.

She has a very high probability of requiring a liver transplant to save her life, along with intensive therapies and 24/7 medical supervision to support a full recovery. Every moment counts.

Why We’re Asking for Help

Paloma and her husband Doug are currently in Mexico, where they do not have insurance to cover the advanced care now required. The costs are overwhelming and continue to rise daily—ICU treatment, specialized diagnostics, medications, transplant preparation, and the cost of the medical air evacuation to Mexico City.

We are seeking to raise $250,000 USD to cover these urgent and ongoing medical expenses. Every dollar will go directly toward her care, recovery, and critical treatments to give her the best chance of survival.

Ayudemos a Paloma: Fondo Médico de Emergencia para su Recuperación Hepática y Neurológica

Queridos amigos, familiares y almas solidarias,

Nos encontramos atravesando uno de los momentos más difíciles y urgentes de nuestras vidas. Nuestra querida Paloma Gonzalez Garcia (Rowell)—una madre amorosa, esposa devota y amiga entrañable—fue hospitalizada en Mazatlán después de contraer un caso repentino y severo de hepatitis. Lo que comenzó como una visita familiar durante el verano se convirtió en una emergencia médica que ahora amenaza su vida.

La enfermedad avanzó rápidamente hasta convertirse en una falla hepática aguda con encefalitis (inflamación del cerebro), una combinación extremadamente peligrosa. El hígado de Paloma dejó de funcionar correctamente y la inflamación cerebral ha afectado su lucidez y respuesta cognitiva. Pasó varios días en terapia intensiva en Mazatlán hasta que los médicos recomendaron con urgencia un traslado especializado.

Gracias al esfuerzo de muchos, el miércoles 23 de julio Paloma fue trasladada en ambulancia aérea a la Ciudad de México, donde actualmente está bajo el cuidado de uno de los mejores equipos de hepatología del país.

Existe una alta probabilidad de que Paloma necesite un trasplante de hígado para salvar su vida, además de terapias intensivas y vigilancia médica las 24 horas para lograr una recuperación completa. Cada día es crucial.
