Paisley Mezo is a fighter; she has those strong family genes, but it has not been an easy fight for this strong girl.

Upon birth, Paisley was diagnosed with periventricular leukomalacia (PVL), which is a brain injury that damages or kills white matter in the brain, particularly around the fluid-filled ventricles. It's caused by a lack of blood or oxygen flow to the area, which softens brain tissue and creates "holes" in the brain. She is dependent on a g-tube for sustenance. Paisley's eyes are often closed, and doctors believe she may be cortically blind.

Alexis spent several weeks holding on to hope as doctors told her that they did not think Paisley would live, but eventually, Paisley became stable enough to finally go home, receiving palliative care once a week. She has since been in and out of the hospital with seizures, low oxygen, low body temperature, among other conditions. Week by week, she has defied all odds and continued to pull through, and we are all so grateful.

Paisley just celebrated her first birthday!

Over this last week, Paisley developed a respiratory infection that turned into sepsis, and she was flown to Comer's Hospital in Chicago. Alexis applied to stay nearby at the charity house and shuttles back and forth daily. Paisley is being treated with antibiotics and oxygen and is in stable condition. However, developing sepsis puts her at a significantly elevated risk of death.

Alexis is facing a great financial hardship right now while trying to make everything work for her and her daughter.

While hope and faith are the top priority in her heart, she also knows that she must be prepared for Paisley losing her fight.

Alexis and family are asking for help to cover the current expenses, and also to have money put aside in order to prepare for what comes next.

She and the family are so grateful to everyone for all of their love and support over this year.
