Support Our Union Family in Facing Layoffs

On July 15-16, 2025, 5 USAW-RI employees of the Providence Public Library received layoff notices resulting from financial complications of the Covid-19 pandemic and cuts to federal funding from the Trump administration. All of these employees were in public facing positions and worked above and beyond their roles to directly serve their community and build connections that will benefit the library beyond their time there. It is worth noting that these folks are so caring, genuine, and generous to their communities that a few of these members have opted out of benefiting from this campaign. Instead, they have chosen to contribute financially to their affected co-workers despite facing economic uncertainty themselves.

This campaign aims to provide support for our union siblings who have received these notices to help alleviate any financial stress they face as they look for new jobs. Please help us give back to these individuals while they look for new employment opportunities by donating to this campaign and circulating it across your social networks. Any little bit helps and is greatly appreciated by our bargaining unit.

*Additional union staff members have been given conditional notice, but may retain their jobs based on federal funding. This may increase the number of recipients, and we will be updating the number of recipients as we get more information.
