During the week commencing 20th July, Slievenamon mountain in Tipperary was engulfed by one of the largest and most devastating fires ever witnessed on the mountain. What began as a wildfire quickly escalated into an unprecedented event, leaving a lasting impact on the landscape and the communities that call the foothills of Slievenamon home.

This fundraiser has been established by several local residents to support the communities of Kilcash, Ballypatrick and Kilurney, who have been deeply affected by this devastating event. These communities are privileged to be nestled at the foot of the majestic Slievenamon mountain, a place that has shaped local life, heritage and identity for generations. To see such an iconic landscape scarred by fire has been heartbreaking for everyone.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who worked tirelessly to combat the fire and protect lives, homes, farmland and wildlife. In particular, we acknowledge the outstanding efforts of Tipperary Fire & Rescue Service, Coillte, An Garda Síochána, the Irish Air Corps, and the many other agencies who responded with professionalism and dedication.

Most importantly, we pay tribute to the extraordinary local community. Farmers, agricultural contractors, plant hire contractors, landowners, volunteers and countless local residents came together, often working in extremely difficult conditions, to help contain the fire and support the emergency response. Their determination, courage and community spirit were nothing short of remarkable and demonstrated the very best of what rural Ireland is about.

The impact of this fire will be felt for some time. Recovery will take patience, commitment and the continued strength of the local community.

Every euro raised through this appeal will be used to arrange a community gathering on the 19th of September with surplus donated directly to community organisations within the affected areas of Kilcash, Ballypatrick and Kilurney to help them recover, rebuild, learn and thrive following the events of the Slievenamon fire. Funds will support initiatives that strengthen the community, restore local amenities where appropriate, and ensure these proud communities emerge stronger from this difficult chapter.

Whether you are a local resident, someone with connections to the area, or simply someone who appreciates the beauty and significance of Slievenamon, your support, no matter how big or small, will make a real difference.

Thank you for standing with our Slievenamon communities.
