In September(ish) we will be welcoming our second gumnut baby into the world! We’re hoping for a homebirth with our 3 year old son present, which he is extremely excited about.
Unfortunately it’s not possible to access publicly funded homebirths where I live, in the Blue Mountains Australia, so a private midwife is our only option. We've found a wonderful local midwife who lives just 10 minutes away, who will be present at our birth.
We’re also choosing to have a doula this time. Our first attempted homebirth had complications and ended with a hospital transfer and a NICU stay for bubba, and in hindsight a doula would have made this experience a lot less traumatic.
No matter where and how this second bubba chooses to be born, we’re confident that our wonderful team will help it to be a beautiful, supported and sacred birth.
BUT these services are expensive (and rightly so) which is difficult for a self-employed creative mama who works part-time. Instead of spending a large proportion of my income on this birth, I am hoping that anyone who has appreciated or benefited from my Gumnut Magic work will send some love back in the form of a small donation. And that friends and family might donate instead of buying any baby gifts - we literally need no more stuff, but a positive birth experience will be the best present ever!
Your donation will cover:
$6000 Private midwife Ashlee Anslow, The Birthing Tree
- Prenatal and postnatal visits monitoring the health of mama and baby
- Medical support during the birth
$2880 Doula Aimee Sing, Birth Aims
- Prenatal visits - physical and emotional preparation for birth
- Labour and birth support, including supporting big brother to be present at the birth
- Postnatal visits including breastfeeding support
Any additional donations beyond our target will help cover the cost of other pregnancy and birth related expenses we are incurring, including:
- Physio appointments
- Pregnancy yoga
- Mental health support
