We are Lui (YT3PL), Luc (F5RAV), and Abdel (M0NPT), three amateur radio enthusiasts coming together for a special project in The Gambia.

While amateur radio will bring us together, our main goal is to give something back to a local school and help create a safer and healthier environment for its children.

What are we raising money for?

We are raising funds to help the school:

• Build 5 new toilets
Providing the children with clean, safe and appropriate sanitation facilities.

• Build a wall surrounding the school
Helping provide a safer, more secure environment for the children and teachers.

These may seem like basic things, but for the school and the children who attend it, they can make a huge and lasting difference.

Building on our previous work

This is not our first time supporting this community. In our previous trips, we have already built three new classrooms for the school. Now, we want to continue that work by focusing on sanitation and security — two more essential needs that will help complete the picture of a safe and dignified learning environment.

The amateur radio DXpedition

As part of the project, we will also be operating an amateur radio DXpedition from The Gambia.

We will be active as C5R on the HF bands and via amateur radio satellites, and we will be taking part in the CQ WW SSB Contest on 24–25 October 2026.

We also hope to give radio amateurs around the world the opportunity to make contact with us from The Gambia and, in doing so, help bring attention to the school project.

The DXpedition is completely self-funded

We want to make this absolutely clear:

The DXpedition is being fully funded by us personally.

Our travel, accommodation, radio equipment and other DXpedition expenses are not being paid for from the GoFundMe donations.

Every penny donated through this campaign will go towards the school project.

Our aim is to make sure that your generosity directly benefits the children and the school.

Project management in The Gambia

Lui (YT3PL) will be in The Gambia for the full month and will personally oversee and project-manage the school work on the ground.

He will work with the local people involved in the construction and monitor the progress of the toilets and surrounding wall.

Luc (F5RAV) will be joining the project for one week, supporting the work on the ground and helping with the DXpedition.

Abdel (M0NPT) will support the project remotely with software, systems and technical assistance, helping with planning, digital tools and other technical requirements. He is also hoping to travel out to join us on the ground, though this is still to be confirmed.

Together, we hope to combine our passion for amateur radio with something that can have a genuine and lasting impact.

❤️ Every contribution makes a difference

We know that not everyone can make a large donation, but every contribution counts.

£5, £10, £20 or whatever you can comfortably afford will help us move closer to our goal of providing these children with better facilities and a safer school environment.

We will share updates, photographs and progress from The Gambia so that everyone who supports the project can see how their contribution is helping.

If you are an amateur radio operator, we hope you will support us — not only by making a QSO with our station, but by helping us make a difference to the children.

And if you simply believe that every child deserves a safe and decent place to learn, we would be incredibly grateful for your support.

Thank you

Thank you for taking the time to read about our project.

Thank you to everyone who donates, shares the campaign or helps spread the word.

Together, we can turn an amateur radio DXpedition into something much bigger — an opportunity to build, support and make a real difference in the lives of children in The Gambia.
