Early this morning, a fire broke out at the Georgetown Oaks Apartments on King George Boulevard. Chatham County Police Department officers were the first on scene, and bravely ran toward the building as the upper floors were engulfed in flames. My family was trapped on an upper floor balcony, and the officers caught my 2 children safely as I dropped them down to escape the fire. The Chatham County Fire Department arrived quickly, and together with the officers, rescued a total of five people from the building. My two children were transported to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.
The fire destroyed our home and everything we owned. We are now facing the challenge of finding temporary housing, replacing essentials, and covering medical expenses for our children. The loss is overwhelming, but we are grateful for the quick actions of the first responders who saved our lives.
Any support you can offer means the world to us as we try to recover from this devastating loss. Your kindness will help us get back on our feet and begin to rebuild. Thank you for being part of our journey to recovery.
