Support Our Elective Midwifery Placement in Iceland ⚕
Donation protected
Hi Everyone!
We're two second-year student midwives, with a passion for women's health and a love for learning how maternity care is practiced in the UK and around the world. This year, we have the incredible opportunity to travel to Iceland for our midwifery elective placement - and we need your help to make it happen!
Why Iceland?
Iceland is known for its progressive, woman-centered approach to maternity care, with some of the best global maternal and neonatal outcomes.
As student midwives training in the UK, we’re proud to be part of the NHS, where compassionate, evidence-based care is delivered despite increasing pressures and limited resources. However, we’ve also seen how overworked services, high intervention rates, and staff shortages can impact the birthing experience.
In Iceland, continuity of care is standard, and midwives play a central role from early pregnancy through to postnatal care. There’s a strong emphasis on physiological birth and informed choice, with fewer interventions and more holistic approaches that prioritize the well-being of women, family and their babies of course :)
As aspiring midwives, we’re excited to immerse ourselves in this unique healthcare system, observe different models of care, and bring back valuable insights that will shape our future practice in the NHS
Why we need your help:
As amazing as this opportunity is, Icelad is very expensive, and we will be going for two weeks. We are covering as much as we can ourselves, but with flights, accommodation and daily expenses, the costs are quickly adding up!
Your donation will go directly towards:
- ✈️ Return flights to Iceland
- Accommodation near the hospital
- Daily expenses (transport, meals, etc.)
Why this matters?
This placement isn't just a trip - it's a chance to grow as healthcare professionals and bring fresh ideas and perspectives back to our own communities. Every single donation, big or small, brings us closer to that goal.
We’re so grateful for your support, and we promise to share updates, photos, and insights from our journey!
With gratitude,
Desiree and Natalia
