I’m a member of this community, and like many of you, I’ve come to know and admire one of the people who quietly shows up for our children every day — our local school crossing guard.

She and her family are rebuilding their lives here after being forced to leave their home country under extremely difficult circumstances. With her permission, I’m sharing her story and asking our community to come together during a moment of unexpected financial hardship.

We have chosen not to share her name publicly to protect her family’s privacy.

Her Story

My family and I were forced to leave our home country after experiencing extremely difficult circumstances, leaving behind everything we had ever known. We are now working hard to rebuild our lives in the United States and create a safe and stable future for our children.

In less than two years since arriving here, I have proudly watched my children thrive in school and achieve meaningful success. In my home country, I spent many years working in education, and today I proudly serve my new community as a school crossing guard.

The kindness, respect, and humanity I have received from the children, parents, and neighbors have touched my heart in ways I cannot fully express. This role has become a meaningful part of my new life, and leaving it would not be easy.

Despite the many challenges my family has faced, I remain committed to giving back. In addition to my work, I volunteer with four other organizations because helping others — even in small ways — gives me purpose and strength.

Recently, unexpected financial hardships have made it extremely difficult to cover basic necessities such as rent and living expenses. Support during this time would mean more than words can express. It would provide relief during a stressful moment and help us continue moving forward with hope.
