Emma's fundraiser to stop Asian Hate
Donation protected
Hi All,
I am Emmanouela (she/her), I am Greek and immigrated to the United States 5y ago in the hopes of a better future and the ambition to pursue my dreams. I identify as white, until immigrating to the US I did not know what this really means and how much privilege I have. I know now - will never take this for granted!
Racism, xenophobic violence and discrimination against the Asian community is not a new issue. However, in recent weeks and months we have witnessed a reprehensible surge in violence targeting the Asian, Asian-American, and Pacific-Islander community, exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic. According to one source, Asian-American hate crimes have increased by nearly 150% in major cities in the United States (Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism of California State University, San Bernardino). Unfortunately, the situation in the United States is one facet of a global increase in anti-Asian attacks, and for East and South East Asian (ESEA) communities around the world. According to another source, many other countries (i.e. UK, Australia and New Zealand) see a similar increase in hate crimes against the Asian community (Time).
No matter how you identify yourself this issue is directly impacting you and your communities. You should be informed, create awareness and take actions to solve this. Each of us individually but also all all together collectively can have a huge impact! Starting this fundraiser in an effort to create awareness among my professional network, friends and family all around the world but also to collect funds that will be donated to organizations fighting asian hate.
Total funds will be equally distributed to:
- Stop AAPI Hate
- Asian Mental Health Collective
- Asian American Advocacy Fund
- HeartofDinner
I will personally donate $ 2000 & my employer Remerge will match all employee's donations (including mine). I will share total donation numbers through this platform and via email to each of you.
Hope you join us to support this cause!
