Dear Friends,
I’m reaching out to ask for your help in sponsoring my young friend Jimmy Lattimore’s gym membership at his local YMCA.
I met Jimmy this fall while serving on Ladera in the immigrant neighborhoods of Southeast Fort Worth. He moved from Mississippi this summer with his mom, Ronda, and his brothers to live with relatives. They are a family of believers who are new to Texas and are seeking stability and community here in Fort Worth.
For several weeks, Jimmy has joined the 8–12-year-olds I minister to each week for soccer and football, but when it comes time for Bible study, it’s difficult to keep him engaged—understandably so. Jimmy just turned 17 and is well past the age for the Ladera program.
Still, I’m always grateful to have Jimmy around. A couple of weeks ago, the Lord placed it on my heart to ask Jimmy what we could do to help him stay active, supported, and off the streets after school. His answer was simple: a gym membership. What a humble and practical request. It reminded me of the call in James 2:15–16 “If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace, be warmed and filled,’ without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that?”
Jimmy doesn’t need luxury—he needs opportunity, encouragement, and a safe place to grow. This is one tangible way we can love him in Christ when our available resources for kids his age are limited or non existent.
So I want to invite you into this with me. With a $29 donation, you can sponsor one month of Jimmy’s membership at the local YMCA. My goal is to provide him with 12 months, giving him a full year of consistency and encouragement. Any leftover funds will go toward transportation, sports gear, or other needs that support his development.
Thank you for considering this opportunity to show Christ’s love in action. Your generosity would mean so much to Jimmy.
I asked Jimmy a few questions on video. Click here to see his response.
