One TWU is celebrating 10 years of supporting LGBTQIA2S+ students and allies at Trinity Western University. But this year, we faced an uncertain future. In September, as personal tragedies affected some of our leaders and we faced the most hostile university environment to date, we weren’t sure if we had the leadership or resources to continue. We could not have been more wrong.
Now, we have a new Managing Director, two student leaders, a growing community of 20 students, and new programs making a real difference. This has been, by far, our most active year on record, with more and more students reaching out and needing the support and community we provide.
To keep this momentum going, we need your help. We are raising $15,000 to sustain One TWU’s work in this critical time before we become a registered charity. Your support will ensure that we can continue providing essential programming, community, and advocacy for LGBTQ+ students at TWU.
WHY YOUR SUPPORT MATTERS
This year, we've expanded our impact by:
- Holding weekly meetings for students to access safe, confidential support.
- Launching an ambassadorship program with three student ambassadors to help new students connect.
- Hosting our first community Christmas dinner since COVID.
- Partnering with Dark Glass Theatre to co-produce Gay on God’s Campus, a production based on real experiences of TWU students (March 28–30 in Abbotsford, Fort Langley, and North Vancouver).
- Offering mental health and wellness sessions, LGBTQ+ inclusive sex education, and relationship & consent workshops to students.
- Planning involvement in Langley Pride this summer and other upcoming initiatives, including the expansion of our alumni network.
WHY NOW?
We are in the process of becoming a registered charity, but we are still about 12 months away from being able to provide tax receipts or access new funding opportunities. Our work doesn’t stop in the meantime. Students rely on us, and we need to keep our doors open.
