Support Olivia's Mission with Operation Rainbow
Donation protected
Hi everyone!
My name is Olivia McDermott, and I’m a high school senior passionate about healthcare, service, and helping others. I have been given an incredible opportunity to travel to Cuenca, Ecuador from March 14–23, 2025, on a medical mission with Operation Rainbow, a non-profit that provides free orthopedic surgeries to children and young adults in underserved communities.
Since 1978, Operation Rainbow has transformed thousands of lives by:
- Performing over 18,000 life-changing surgeries for children suffering from congenital deformities or chronic injuries.
- Providing physical therapy and orthopedic care to more than 50,000 children and young adults.
- Training local doctors and nurses in orthopedic surgical techniques to create sustainable, long-term impact.
On this mission, I will be working directly alongside a team of orthopedic surgeons, including Dr. Dave Atkin, who I had the privilege of shadowing this past summer in San Francisco. I will assist the surgeons with various tasks, support the medical team, and help bridge communication by speaking Spanish with patients, their families, and local medical staff.
As a volunteer, I am responsible for covering my own travel and mission expenses, totaling $1,950. I am fundraising to make this once-in-a-lifetime experience possible and to bring much-needed care to children in Ecuador.
If you feel moved to contribute, any donation — big or small — will go directly toward my mission costs and help me be part of this incredible effort to bring healing and hope.
If you’re unable to donate, sharing this page with friends, family, or anyone who might be interested would mean the world to me!
Thank you so much for reading and for any support you can give. I am so grateful to be part of something bigger than myself, and I can’t wait to share this journey with you all.
With gratitude,
Olivia McDermott
