On May 1st, 2022, Olivia showed her mom her new weird rash. Then she started to feel tired and just not well. Low-grade fever - just some Tylenol, right? Nope - parents know best. They took Olivia to VCU Medical Center, where she was diagnosed with Leukemia late in the evening. Today, Monday, May 2nd, they learned specifically that their beautiful daughter has Acute Myeloid Leukemia. She has been admitted to VCU Children's Hospital with Oncology care to undergo treatments, including chemo. Her immune system is so weak she cannot accept visitors but would love cards or thoughts of encouragement and prayers. For those able and willing to donate, we are reaching out to her community/tribe in this fashion to assist them financially through this time. We don't want the family to be concerned with medical bills or increased home assistance costs while supporting their daughter.
Update Tuesday May 3rd.
Olivia starts her first round of chemo today. Please keep your prayers coming for mild side effects. Olivia has a horrible gag reflex and swollen neck lymph nodes so we are concerned about nausea. We pray she can rest peacefully while the medications and the doctors begin the slated 3 months of in hospital treatment.
Cards or other items can be received at 17220 Silver Maple Ct. I will bring them over daily.
Note From Jen 5/3/2022
Hey everyone. First off, I want to say we are so overwhelmed by all the tremendous support our friends and family are giving us. It has truly brought me to tears to see all the love from everyone as we navigate this difficult 6-8 month journey that lies ahead of us. The gut punch Ken and I took Sunday evening was hard and even harder to try and put on a brave face to Olivia until we decided to tell her what had happened to her
I am still in a fog myself and kind of on auto-pilot right now. Ken and i are currently living in the hospital with Liv taking turns staying in her room with her at night while the other stays in one of the Ronald McDonald rooms they have here at VCU
I have so many people asking how can I help and I am trying to keep up with and respond to all the kind messages and love shown to us right now.
Two of my friends have offered to help me facilitate updates on olivia and delivery of care packages that many of you have asked to bring
Karyn Jackson will be helping me with daily updates and questions and Heather Quast Brushwood will help with care package deliveries to the hospital. I felt so bad having so many messages that I had not returned yet so Karyn and Heather offered to help!
Again from the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for being there for us with so much love and support! It really does bring me to happy tears to read all the messages and such! ❤❤❤❤❤ we are truly blessed and Miss O will come out on top!
