Operation Fruit Rescue Edmonton (OFRE) is a non profit organization that will get locally grown fruit into the hands, mouths, and minds of people in the Edmonton capital region through fostering the development of community relationships, "hands on" workshops and knowledge sharing. OFRE connects our community through harvesting and preserving local fruit. Our mission is to reduce waste, share knowledge, and empower Edmontonians with food preservation skills, ensuring that everyone benefits from the bounty of fresh, locally grown produce.
In 2025, OFRE embarked on our first successful season with our new mandate. We hosted an educational workshop for every month of the year except for December. We ran three Apple Cider Celebrations in collaboration with three different community leagues. With the support of some grant funding, we purchased some equipment that helped us run the Celebrations.
In 2026, we are planning to make the Apple Cider Celebrations a legacy project - supporting Community Leagues to run them, with the intention that they will continue the tradition annually on their own. As we cannot rely on grant funding, donations will support our ongoing operations and purchase of further equipment that will support the delivery of the Apple Cider Celebrations, allowing us to continue to gift this tradition to new community leagues every year. Your support makes possible the cultivation of a long term local food culture here in Edmonton.
Please consider supporting us as we continue to grow into our new role as an actively contributing member of Edmonton's community ecosystem! For more information on the organization, please visit our web site, https://operationfruitrescue.org/.
