Support objections against Kentish Town West redevelopment
Donation protected
This fundraiser is on behalf of BETTER WEST KENTISH TOWN, a coalition of local groups working for a beneficial outcome for the large scale development planned for our area.
On 1st July Camden Council submitted a planning application to knock down all 316 homes on West Kentish Town Estate and build 856 in their place.
530 dwellings will be for private sale at very high prices, 326 for social rent.
The scheme is too dense and too tall for our neighbourhood.
4x the existing amount of buildings …
4x as tall (up to 16 storeys) …
and will take 20 years to build due to its vast size.
The scheme is much too big and must be reduced in scale.
As proposed it will cause:
- health hazards from people living near the site: dust, noise, air pollution
- endless disruption and danger from construction traffic: 120,000 HGVs over 20 years
- poor daylight and sunlight and loss of views
- no community facilities or key-worker housing
- loss of mature green areas and half the trees
- crammed blocks creating a ‘heat island’ effect
- expensive private homes won’t change the housing crisis
URGENT ACTIONS TO STOP THIS NIGHTMARE
We need your help to pay for leaflets and venue hire so that we can involve everyone in the area and mobilise a large number of people in our efforts to get Camden to see sense, and reduce the scale of the development. A small amount such as £5 will be very helpful.
