Support NYC Artist with Rent Costs

Hey, loves! I’m in a pickle. I need to raise $3,000 to raise money for rent. Since February, I have been looking for affordable housing. This $3,000 will cover first and last months rent along with security. I am an active performance artist living in NYC. I work hard.

My mission is to secure a new apartment by August 18th. I’m staying in the NYC metro area. My storage unit filled with props and outfits needed to my career is in Astoria, Queens. Because of this fact, Im looking to remain in Astoria.

During the height of the stay at home order, I taught myself how to sew. I rarely buy any outfits because I save more money developing and executing my own outfits and hair from scratch. Recently, I have been digging into my storage unit and repurposing what I already have So that so save money. And by recently, I mean since 2020. This career as a drag artist is not cheap. I do my best to find ways to not break my bank.

I mostly work through a drag entertainment company called Flipphone Events based out of Minnesota. They found me on Instagram during the end of the covid stay at home order. This company changed my life. Shortly after performing in Minnesota, I was asked if I’d be interested in performing with them in NYC. I have been performing with them now for almost three years in NYC and Boston.

As you can imagine, Im a busy performer. A little over a year ago, I was beginning to recover from being paralyzed due to a horrible sneeze. I was thankfully supported by my community financially and emotionally. What most people don’t know is that I’m still not completely recovered. When I sneezed, all of the nerves in my lower lumber compacted together and I could not work or feeling anything below my waist. I needed spinal cord injury surgery. It took months in order to walk or even feel the the lightest sensation on the bottom side of my thighs. Today and for the rest of my life, there’s little to no sensation under my legs. Most of the time, when I sit down all I feel is little to nothing or my sit bones. With that being said, transportation cost add up especially when I’m physically not able to be on my feet all the time.

$3000 Breakdown

$1800 will go towards first and last months rent
$900 will go towards the second month of rent as a boost
$300 will be used as transportation cost

I want to thank everyone for helping me toward reaching this goal. I hope the goal ends up being greater for more security. I love my job. Having secure housing will only make me stronger! I hope to see you at one of my shows or many in the future.
