Support Near North Families Affected by ICE Raids

We are transitioning to a new GoFundMe fundraiser in collaboration with Indigenous Roots, which we hope will grow larger than this one. The needs continue to grow. We will continue to do this much needed work. The same community team involved in this fundraiser will continue to be involved in the new fundraiser with Indigenous Roots. Azucena, who has been part of this team from the beginning, will be the organizer of the new fundraiser. We appreciate your generosity and hope you will consider switching over to the new fundraiser with us: https://gofund.me/f0550f0bd. Thank you so much, Kurt & team

At and around Near North, several families have been directly impacted by the recent escalation of ICE raids in the Twin Cities. These events have created sudden and serious financial strain for families who are already navigating uncertainty.

Funds raised through this effort will go directly to the families. To support them with essential needs such as rent, groceries, utilities, and other urgent expenses.

With the support of our neighbors, community, and allies we hope to provide relief and remind these families that they are not alone. If you are able, please consider donating any amount, no matter the size, is deeply appreciated.

Thank you for showing up with care and solidarity.

Contributions are not tax-deductible for the donors, because this campaign is not a registered 501(c)(3) charity.

Per gofundme requirements, here is additional info:
1. Relationship to people we are raising money for: I live in North Minneapolis. I am a Northsider collaborating with my community to provide aid to fellow Northsiders. The beneficiaries of this fundraiser are fellow Minneapolis residents who also live on the Northside. They are our immigrant neighbors and community members, specifically those targeted by ICE. Given the nature of the situation, the beneficiaries necessarily remain anonymous.
2. The funds initially go into an account in my name. From there, we distribute to families.
3. We have an individual who is well connected within the immigrant community in North Minneapolis who is trusted and someone that people feel safe reaching out to. This person receives requests from families who are in crisis and requesting specific amounts to help with rent, utilities, groceries, and other basic needs. A different individual compiles and logs the requests. That person reaches out to me with the amounts needed. I withdraw those amounts from the account holding the gofundme funds (this fundraiser). For a few families, it is a direct electronic transfer (zelle) from my account to a family's account. For most families, I provide the withdrawals in cash or check to other individuals that are also connected within immigrant communities who deliver directly to the families. We strive to protect people's privacy to allow them to stay safe in their homes. Please note, the beneficiaries are anonymous. As a donor, please know that and be okay with it when considering whether to donate.
4. Families request a specific dollar amount for specific needs, such as rent, utilities, groceries, and other basic needs. We fully fund those requests where we can, and families spend the funds accordingly. Money is divided among families based on their specific request/need.
5. We expect all donations will be used to fund requests from families, with remaining amounts to partially fund any outstanding requests. On the off-chance there are funds leftover, they will be donated to https://www.achievetwincities.org/
