Hi friends, allies, and kind-hearted strangers,

We're reaching out on behalf of Nio, a resilient, compassionate Black trans person who is part of our local community. Nio was born in Nigeria and has been working hard to build a safe, affirming life here in BC but now he need our support to continue that journey.

Nio is currently facing two major financial hurdles:

-$2,000 for citizenship application fees

-$3,000 to prepare for top surgery recovery

Top surgery will be a life-changing and affirming step for Nio and he’s already taken the first step by opening a file with Trans Care BC. However, he need to secure citizenship in order to get a confirmed surgery date and to qualify for full coverage under the health system.

This means the path to surgery, healing, and safety is directly tied to Nio’s ability to pay the $2,000 in citizenship fees.

On top of that, Nio is fundraising $3,000 to cover recovery costs, including time off work, rent, transportation, and aftercare.

These costs are overwhelming to face alone. As a Black trans immigrant, Nio faces daily systemic barriers to access, care, and stability. That’s why we’re asking for $5,000 to help support:

• Citizenship filing and legal fees

• Basic living expenses and recovery support

• Medical supplies and transportation
