Help Nigel Attend YMCA's Two-Week Camp This Summer!

Nigel has an opportunity to attend a two-week overnight camp with the YMCA of Greater Chicago, from July 6 - July 18. He participated last year and once before Covid. Unfortunately, this year I'm unable financially to send him after losing my job last June.

It's never been easy for me to ask for help, but this is different. When it comes to my son, I will do anything to ensure Nigel has the opportunities and experiences that stimulate his curiosity, allow him to explore, meet people, open his mind and enrich his life.

Nigel is a super smart, funny, thoughtful and intellectually curious 12-year-old who loves new adventures, meeting new people and being active outdoors. It also gives him time to bond with other males his age and the amazing camp counselors from local universities and colleges around the world!

Y Camp is something he looks forward to all year long. Last summer he made so many friends and they've kept in touch. Several are coming back and they'll be cabinmates this summer! :-))

For two weeks, he'll live in a cabin with about 12 boys. The campgrounds are beautiful and lush. It sits on a lake surrounded by lots of tall trees, giant evergreens and wildlife about 60 minutes north of Chicago.

The campers wake at sunrise and spend the entire day outdoors fishing, canoeing, swimming, rock climbing, playing games, learning archery, fencing and outdoor survival skills. After breaks for lunch and dinner, they shower and settle into their cabins to wind down, read and talk major trash before it's lights out at 10pm.

It's hot, humid, dirty, buggy, stinky and exhausting and Nigel LOVES every single minute!

I have applied for a partial scholarship, however, not much funding is available, if any, this close to camp. We won't know until 1-2 days before camp starts if he will receive anything.

A donation in any amount would be greatly appreciated.

If we do receive a scholarship, any remaining funds will go towards his participation in a YMCA mini-camp later this summer.
