50 Miles, $50K: Help Nico Conquer Cancer
Donation protected
On January 10th, 2026, I’ll be running 50 miles to raise $50,000 in support of my 18-year-old nephew Nico, who is in the fight of his life against Stage 4 Ewing Sarcoma (a rare and aggressive bone cancer).
Calling it a “battle” doesn’t quite capture it. Five months in, it feels like a full-scale war.
Nico’s symptoms started a year ago, but his official diagnosis didn’t come until January 16. Since then, he’s endured more than anyone should have to:
- 22 rounds of chemotherapy since February 6
- Over 40 blood tests
- Two blood transfusions
- Multiple infections
- More injections and sleepless nights than we can count
- A 30% drop in body weight and a complete loss of mobility
And now, with sheer determination, he’s relearning how to walk
His strength is humbling. While Nico fights through unimaginable pain, delays in treatment, and the brutal toll this disease takes, his family navigates the emotional and financial chaos that comes with it, especially within the limitations of South Africa’s dysfunctional healthcare system.
At the same time, Mari and I had the honor of welcoming our little baby girl into our lives in February. We hold the reality of our family’s struggle in the balance of celebrating new life.
It’s been a season of extremes: I’m a first-time dad, often sleep-deprived and overwhelmed, but whenever training for this race feels too hard, I think of Nico. If he can endure all this, I can keep running.
This run is for him.
Please help me reach the $50,000 goal to support Nico and his family. Every dollar makes a difference in easing their burden and giving Nico a fighting chance.
Let’s do this—for Nico!
