My name is Nicole, and I’m a single mom raising my amazing son, Zakai. We recently moved 12 hours away from our hometown to escape an abusive marriage, and while starting over has been incredibly hard, it’s been worth every challenge. I want nothing but love and happiness for Zakai, and I’m doing everything I can to give him the best life possible.

Zakai is 5 years old and is considered nonverbal, but lately he’s been using his words more and more—2 or 3 at a time, which is a huge step for him. He loves numbers, cars, trees, branches, dirt, letters, spelling, jumping, flipping, and swimming. He’s so affectionate and happy, especially now that we’ve started over. Before our move, Zakai only hummed, but now he’s showing no fear and is blossoming every day.

Right now, we’re facing some tough times. I want to make sure he has what he needs—school clothes, supplies, and household items.
