Nicolas is a dedicated student who is doing his best to attend Allan Hancock College. He is taking adult classes to improve his English while also working full-time. Unfortunately, just days before he was scheduled to present his photos from the Photovices project, he received devastating news: his mother had passed away from the Dengue Virus.

In February 2026, Nicolas expressed feelings of loneliness and sadness being away from his parents. He considered moving back to his hometown to be closer to them, but they encouraged him to stay and focus on saving money to build a house in his hometown. After his mother’s passing, however, Nicolas had to leave his job at the tomato factory because he couldn’t work due to the grief and heartbreak. As heavy expenses arrived for the funeral, rent and food Nicolas shortly returned to picking strawberries as a fieldworker.
