Ngombor Community Development Alliance (https://ngombor.org), in Uganda is working to create a thriving community hub in Nebbi District that supports sustainable and diverse agriculture and careers in IT.
We're working to build a permaculture model farm that long term will be a regional hub supporting other smaller community groups in Northern Uganda.
As part of Ngombor's mission we want to show that agriculture and technology, white collar jobs and blue collar jobs, city and country, don't need to be in opposition. We can mutually support each other, improving the biodiversity and resilience of the land, communities and individual careers.
We are stronger together.
Thanks to our generous donors and savvy on the ground support we are making strong progress on our goals.
$2000 - Achieved!
We’ve built a ceiling and roof for our first building, we’ve dug swales to capture water.
$3000 - Achieved!
We are installing a water tank – running water at the farm! We’ve purchased trees for our food forest, and dug more swales..
$4,500 - Achieved
We’ve pouring a concrete floor in our first building, building gables and can install external windows and doors.
$6,000 - Achieved
We have basic solar (some lights and phone charger), are building a chicken coop and can get our first chickens!
Once we get chickens, Ngombor will be able to do more fundraising by selling eggs and chickens.
Revised goals
Thanks to on the ground support, a SeedMoney grant and strategic decisions such as deciding to make do with a smaller kitchen, we're already more than half way towards our goal of getting goats at the farm
$7000
We’ve built a goat house and are working on fencing. We’ll get our first goats and have better facilities for hosting trainings!
$9000
We will have more essential infrastructure and get a hydrologist report, our first step towards getting a well that we will share with the community
What happens next will depend on what other funding sources we can can get, but we have many dreams and plans, including:
- Build the well. Getting a grant can take years, with enough funding we could get more people clean water now.
- Build a cow shelter and get a cow. We’ll have better composting facilities and ways of enriching the soil.
- Solar power at the farm. Improving safety, self sufficiency and substantially increasing the types of training we can do.
- Increase community resilience and disaster preparedness, including buying a mower.
