Hello, friends, neighbors, and history lovers
My name is Baylor Van Sickle and I’m a proud Newton, Iowa native with deep roots in this town and an even deeper love for its history. I’m launching this campaign to help purchase and preserve the iconic Newton Daily News building, a cornerstone of our downtown and a silent witness to over a century of community stories, milestones, and memories.
This historic building is more than bricks and mortar. It’s a symbol of Newton’s resilience, progress, and the generations of people who made this town what it is today. Unfortunately, like many historic sites, it’s at risk of falling into neglect or being lost forever.
With your support, I hope to:
1) Purchase the Newton Daily News building
2) Restore it with respect for its original character and architecture
3) Reimagine it as a vibrant space that serves the Newton community—possibly as a local museum, event venue, small business incubator, or cultural hub
4) Set a precedent for the restoration of other historic buildings in the area
This effort isn’t just about saving one building, it’s about sparking a movement to protect and celebrate our town’s rich history. Preserving this site can be a first step toward reviving more historic properties throughout Newton, fostering local pride, attracting visitors, and creating opportunities for education and engagement.
Whether you grew up here, have family here, or simply believe in the power of small towns and their stories, I invite you to join me in preserving a legacy that belongs to all of us.
Every donation—large or small—brings us one step closer to saving a vital piece of Newton’s heart.
Thank you for being part of this mission. Let’s protect our past so we can build a stronger future—together.
With gratitude,
Baylor Van Sickle
