I never thought I’d spend this week delivering food to families too scared to step outside their homes!

In New Orleans, families are trapped in their homes after a sudden ICE sweep that has left long-time residents terrified to work, shop, or even step outside. I’m supporting families that I know personally—people who have lived and worked here for 15 years—along with their American-born children, ages 3 to 16. These are the people you want as neighbors in your community.

They are NOT criminals or threats. They are homeowners, taxpayers, and essential workers who have contributed to our community since the day they arrived, and they were the people who helped to rebuild this city after hurricanes wiped it out. But now, unable to work, they’re struggling to afford food and keep their homes. They’ve done everything right except navigate an immigration system that is nearly impossible to access. And with state leadership supporting these aggressive sweeps, the situation is quickly worsening.
