We are New Mexico Heritage Rail, the organization responsible for restoring and operating AT&SF 2926, New Mexico's Steam Locomotive. Our operations rely heavily on "Lurch," our car mover, who pulls 2926 out of her shed and handles switching cars for runs down to the railyards.
This Giving Tuesday, help us give Lurch some love! Just like the car you drive, Lurch needs regular maintenance: oil changes, filter replacement, blinker fluid refills, etc. Plus, as anyone who lives in the Desert Southwest knows, the sun here is brutal on tires. Recently, two of Lurch's tires went flat and had to be replaced. This was an unexpected, large expense, but necessary for our operations.
Each tire for Lurch costs about $1,000, so we're fundraising to get two additional tires to give Lurch a full new set. New tires means more traction, which means less strain on Lurch's engine while improving our ability to move locomotives and cars as part of our operations. Anything raised beyond our $2,000 goal will go towards long-term upkeep of Lurch, as well as safety equipment for our move crew.
Maintenance is by far one of the least glamorous parts of railroading, but it is absolutely essential. By helping us to maintain our equipment, you help us be good stewards of New Mexico's rail heritage, and to continue our work of making our wonderful railroad history available and accessible to the public. Thank you for your support! Together— Lurch included—we can keep her rolling!
