Support Needed for Family's Spaulding and Hurricane Recovery

For the last 20 years, my husband Bill and I have welcomed countless guests to our home in the Florida Keys. The home has been in the family since 1958. Bill grew up here. We raised our three daughters here.

We have purposely kept the accommodations "low key "so that families from all backgrounds could enjoy a stay on the island.

Both hurricanes Wilma and Irma devastated the property. From our own resources we pulled ourselves up.

We came out of it.

Or so we thought!

The combination of poorly prepared cement and excessive salt exposure from repeated flooding have taken a toll on the house beyond what we can manage. The Spaulding is so advanced, the city of Marathon constrained us to close our doors. There is a threat to shut down the electricity if we do not vacate the premises.

We have found employment; however, our revenues are not enough to cover the repairs.

Land developers are preying on us, waiting for us to give up.

This is a very nice place. So many folks could not afford to visit the Florida Keys if it was not for a few remaining Ma and Pop businesses like us.

We humbly ask for your help to restore the home.

With your generosity, we have a chance to keep making our home a pleasant place to stay for people from all walks of life. Without us, the Florida Keys are becoming exclusively reserved for the privileged few.
