Thank you for reaching this page and taking the time to hear our story. My name is Jody, and my dearest mother Nancy, is 72 years of age. She is a caretaker of an 87-year-old gentleman 5 to 7 days a week and is also a nanny to 2 toddlers during the week and sometime overnight. She is one of the most giving, caring and hardest working women I know.
On February 20th, 2025, around 6am, my mother received a phone call that there was a fire, and my brother was being rushed to a hospital in Austin, TX and is not breathing on his own. He is uncinches, on a ventilator and has burned his airways. My mother calls me right away! I throw some clothes on, get my son up and we are on our way. I could not let my mother drive 2.5 hours to her home in Lexington, TX from Channelview. She was a nervous wreck!
Just before we got there, she received a call that my brother was okay and will need to rest for the next few weeks to let his airways heal. He is doing okay now and is staying with a family friend until we can figure something out. He too has lost everything. He didn't even have shoes on when he had to crawl out of the house. Thank God he woke up intime to get out of there safely.
By the time we got there, the fire was already out and everything was completely destroyed. We believe the fire was caused by faulty electrical wiring. There was a freeze the night before and my brother had a couple electric heaters plugged in to stay warm.
The house was manufactured back in 1983 and due to the age, she was not able to get it insured. Back then, they used aluminum wiring and now days, they use copper. We think that is what started the fire.
My mom and aunt were willed the homestead when my grandmother passed away. My mom ended up buying my aunts half just before my aunt passed away. Since then, my mom has slowly been putting new upgrades in it. New carper, leather furniture, new appliances and she just saved and spent $2k on materials to put a new subfloor in. That was just last week. The new materials even burned up. All in all, she has spent about $60K withing the last 5 years trying to get it ready for her to retire and enjoy the rest of her years there.
I am starting this go fund me page to help us get her started to rebuild a place for her to call home. I know $20k isn't enough to replace all that she has lost, but it's a start to help demo and clear off the property. Maybe something left for a small down payment on either a tiny home shell or another mobile home. Other expenses we have to consider is appliances, furnishings and the delivery, hook up and or build out. She is semi-retired and on a fixed income. Anything will help. She has lost everything! The only thing she has in her possession are her clothes, her bible, personal photos and her truck.
It is with a sincere heart that I create this page. Even if a donation is not an option, we will take all the PRAYERS and SHARES you can offer. Thank you so very much.
