Hi everyone,
I’m writing this with permission, on behalf of Nadia Malik, her husband Brian, and their beautiful 12-year old son Memphis, who is in need of love and support from our community.
Memphis has recently been diagnosed with a massive brain tumour, and he was immediately admitted to CHEO here in Ottawa. Their world has changed overnight. Nadia and Brian are now waiting for a highly specialized surgical team (approximately 20 doctors from across Ontario) to be assembled so Memphis can undergo the first of multiple surgeries.
This is only the beginning. Memphis will require multiple surgeries, followed by a long year of treatment, physiotherapy, and rehabilitation.
Memphis is an only child, with the heart and soul of incredible depth. Anyone who knows him knows what a special kid he is: loving, gentle, and deeply kind-hearted. He has a love for science and learning how things work, even bringing a book of the human anatomy to the hospital to show his doctors and get a grasp on what’s happening now. He is bright and dreams big. One of his biggest dreams is to become a pilot one day and was supposed to attend his pilot’s lesson and was hoping to get let out to fly and then return, however he will need to remain in hospital awaiting his first surgery, which was crushing.
And if you know Nadia, you know she is one of those rare people who gives endlessly. She is incredibly generous, kind, and thoughtful, and has spent years caring for others, including her family, her friends, and her community, often quietly and without ever expecting anything in return. An incredibly talented stylist with a deep connection and appreciation to her clientele.
Brian is one of those exceptional fathers who is truly present, warm, attentive, and deeply involved every step of the way. He is steady, loving, and completely focused on Memphis, and their bond is something truly special. They continue to discover their heritage together and enjoy drum circles together. Brian describes Memphis as his best friend.
Nadia is a small business owner and the heart behind her salon, located in her home. But as of now, she has had to shut down indefinitely to stay by Memphis’s side and care for him through this incredibly intense medical journey. Nadia is currently the sole breadwinner, and with her business on pause, the financial strain is immediate.
This GoFundMe has been created to help ease the burden so this family can focus on what matters most: being present for Memphis, supporting him through treatment, and helping him heal.
Funds raised will help cover:
• Lost income while Nadia’s salon remains closed
• Travel and transportation costs
• Meals and day-to-day living expenses during hospital stays
• Home expenses and bills
• Ongoing support needs during Memphis’s treatment and recovery
If you are able to donate, share, or leave a message of encouragement, it would mean more than we can express. Every donation helps, and every share brings more support to a family facing the hardest year of their lives.
We have also started a 'Mealtrain' if you’re able to help provide meals while they stay at what is there new home indefinitely CHEO https://mealtrain.com/0rwzy5
Thank you so much for being here for them.
With gratitude,
Friends and Family
