Hello, my name is Ernesto Martinez. The baby in the photo is my nephew, Nicolas. He was born May 10, 2024 and lives in El Salvador with my sister! They’re both aiming to get Canadian citizenship in order to stay with my sister’s husband. Unfortunately my sister and Nico aren’t able to go to Canada for this serious surgery. The reason I’m wanting to fundraise is because Nico suffers from craniosynostosis. Basically, his skull prematurely fused part of itself together and is limiting the space for his brain to grow and develop. In El Salvador we only have two local surgeons that are pediatric neurosurgeons and the children’s hospital they work at do not have the machines necessary for the surgery. Since El Salvador is the only place we can do this surgery, we have to work with what we’ve got. This leads to the cost of the surgery for Nico’s craniosynostosis starting at $15,000 (not accounting for other expenses). If we don’t do the surgery now, then there may be serious brain damage as Nico grows up. We have the surgery dates for August 12th and 14th. If the surgery is unsuccessful, we’ll end up having to wait a year or two for another shot. My hope is to fundraise enough to help even a little bit with the costs and get our best chances for the surgery. Thank you for reading, and if you cannot donate, prayers would be greatly appreciated.
