I woke up to four missed calls and three messages from my sister and three missed calls and a message from my mom.

Their house burned down in the middle of the night.

They had just moved into that house about three months ago to take care of her bestfriend, Cindy, who had just received a Stage 4 cancer diagnoses. My mom quit her job to care for her friend. She took all the necessary steps through the state to become her official care taker. It was a long process. She was finally approved two weeks ago. She hasn’t been paid yet and there is no back pay.

My mom’s bestfriend didn’t make it out of the house last night. The fire started in her room. They believe it was a space heater that caused it.

My mom, my sister and my brother made it out. With nothing except each other. They are currently staying at a motel. And, I’m not sure how long she can sustain that.

I am creating this for them. Anything received at all will allow them to buy necessities. Food, clothing, toiletries. A tube of toothpaste is $1. So, really.. anything at all helps. Anything.
