I never thought I would be in a position where I would need to ask for assistance, but today I am fighting for something more meaningful than pride — I am fighting to maintain custody for my son.

For the second time in 2 years, I am facing a legal battle to prevent my kids from being removed from the home and community where they have built their lives here in Ottawa. This is the second attempt by my ex to relocate them away from their established schools, their friends, their extended support systems, and the facilities that support their growth and well-being. Everything they know — their education, extracurricular activities, healthcare providers, and social networks — is rooted here.

My only goal is stability for my two kids, although she succeeded last September in relocating my daughter to Alberta.

Family court proceedings are emotionally exhausting and overwhelming and to properly defend my son's best interests, I have had to retain again legal counsel. Unfortunately, the legal fees have already surpassed $25K and the process is still ongoing. These costs include court filings, preparation of materials, consultations, and representation — all necessary to ensure my son's voice is properly represented.

I am not seeking conflict. I am seeking continuity, security, and stability for my son.

Anyone who has gone through a custody dispute understands how quickly costs escalate. I am doing everything I can personally and financially, but the burden has become significant.
